Welcome to the Village!
The village is represented by Air which we all need to thrive. Air is the Breath of Life and the Village or Family is the nucleus of life. We are all connected, we need each other to survive.
Village living is what keeps a people vibrant, strong and intact. What I mean by village living is getting to know your neighbors in the community, speaking to our brothas and sistahs and supporting local businesses. We should make a concerted effort to get to know our community members.
In villages in the Motherland, one doesn't stay indoors for very long. Once awake with the sunrise, the villagers wash up, eat breakfast and then commence outside for much of the day. Laundry is washed and dried outdoors. The marketplace is outdoors abound with crafts, crops and various other items to be sold that profits the vendor and the village as a whole. Much of the time, the sistahs work together as well as the brothas. The time spent indoors is for meals and sleeping. The cycle repeats itself with the dawn of a new day.
Village living and values are prevelant today. One of the ways I've incorporated these value systems into my daily life is to LIVE the Nguzo Saba. The Nguzo Saba is the value system set up by Dr. Maulana Karenga, the founder of Kwanzaa. However, where Kwanzaa is a seasonal holiday observance, the Nguzo Saba was meant to be practiced DAILY.

It's my prayer that the Nguzo Saba finds its way into your life and daily activities!
